Manuscript
presentation
Articles may be written in Portuguese, Spanish or English. Aside from
abstracts (in the original language of the article and in English),
the articles in Portuguese and Spanish should include a more extensive
summary (one page), in English, with a greater amount of information
(that may also include citations of tables and illustrations). Titles
and footnotes of illustrations and tables should be bilingual (Portuguese/English
or Spanish/English). Abstracts should have a minimum of 150 and a maximum
of 250 words. Originals should be submitted in double-space and in three
copies. The manuscript should be submitted with a cover page containing
the title (also include title in English, when submitted in Portuguese
or Spanish), name(s) of author(s) (last family name should be put in
capital letters) and affiliations in full, address for contact, and
project support or funding with process number. All articles should
be submitted along with a 3 1/2 -inch floppy disk indicating program
and version used (compatible with Windows®). The same format should
be obeyed when typing.
Illustrations
Tables and illustrations (graphs and figures) should be sent on separate
sheets; the quality of illustrations should allow reproduction of reduced
copies, if necessary.
Keywords
The authors should present between 3 and 10 keywords considered as describers
of the content of their work, in the language in which the article was
presented, and in English for articles submitted in Portuguese and Spanish.
Keywords are subject to change according to the “Medical Subject
Headings” of NML.
Abbreviations
Use standard form; full-length should be used for first citations. No
abbreviations should be used in the title or abstract.
References
References should be numbered in the order they appear in the text,
using Arabic numerals in superscript. The reference list should maintain
the sequence of citation in the text, without taking into account the
alphabetical order of authors. Titles of periodicals, books, publishers
or others should not be abbreviated. List all authors up to 6; if more
than 6, use the expression et al. Personal communications, work in progress
or inedit may be cited when absolutely necessary, but should not be
included in the reference list, and should only be cited in the text
or in the footnote. Whenever an article is being considered for publication,
the title of the periodical, year and other available data, followed
by the expression, between parentheses “in press” should
be given. Non-conventional publications, of difficult access, may be
cited as long as the author(s) of the manuscript indicate(s) where they
can be found.
The Author(s) are
responsible for the accuracy of their references.
